Elitch Gardens

the ART, a hotel is conveniently near Elitch Gardens which has always been more than just an amusement park. It was one of the first zoos west of Chicago, Denver’s first botanical garden and the site of city’s first motion picture theater. Elitch Gardens opened its gates in 1890, and has since expanded to feature more than 50 rides, a 10-acre water park and loads of live entertainment, making it America’s only downtown theme and water park.

Get your thrills at Elitch Gardens

Take a plunge on Splashdown. Drop 200 feet to the ground on the Tower of Doom. Or let your hair fly on Elitch’s newest ride, the Brain Drain, where you shuttle back and forth before wildly looping seven stories in the air. Let’s just say, you’ll get great views of the Denver skyline and Rocky Mountains if you can keep your eyes open.

A total of 13 thrill rides will throw you for a loop, if they’re not spinning, dropping, swinging or slinging you. That’s right – sling. The Sling Shot will launch you into the air inside a ball, accelerating to 80 mph before letting you fall back to Earth at the mercy of gravity.

Twelve family rides and 14 kid-friendly rides offer a little of everything, including a teacup ride, tilt-a-whirl, interactive haunted house and a miniature version of the Tower of Doom.

Cool down at the water park

You’ll have a wet and wild time at Elitch Gardens Water Park. Take a Paradise Plunge down a 62-foot-long enclosed tube that corkscrews to most visitors’ delight. Go for a thrill ride down a 65-foot-tall slide for a free-fall experience. Hang out at Hook’s Lagoon, a five-story tree house with lots of chances for adventure.

The water park is free with theme park admission, which means you get two parks for the price of one, making this a Colorado must-see destination. (But if you want to pamper yourself, consider dropping some extra cash to rent a pool-side cabana.)

Take a break from the adrenaline rush

With so much head-spinning, jaw-dropping fun, you’ll want to catch a break every now and then. Elitch Gardens features a carnival-like atmosphere where you can challenge your friends to games, like Plinko, ring toss, rope ladder or Bank-a-Ball. Test your skills with Cover the Spot, Balloon Pop or High Roller, and let the kiddies play at pint-sized games, like Monkey Toss and Top Spin.

After a few games, be sure to catch the live shows. Entertainment takes center stage at Elitch Gardens, where you can see big-name acts (included in your daily admission) or be part of the show. Performances change each season, so there’s always something new. And if your Denver visit coincides with one of Elitch’s scheduled Dive-In Movie nights, bring the family and float in the wave pool while watching Disney flicks on the big screen.
